Fudoshin:

A constant heart in changing times

We aim to help people be happier, more aware, more effective, and to have a greater sense of meaning and purpose in their lives.

We offer a range of opportunities for personal, professional, and spiritual development for individuals through classes, individual tuition, and public workshops; and for organisations through tailored programs for their leaders and staff.

Some of the things we specialise in are:

  • The Samurai Game - a self-awareness, leadership and team-building workshop
  • Warrior Leadership - An embodied form of leadership training based on warrior philosophy
  • Somatic Presence - Training people to understand how to work with posture and embodied practices to create personal transformation
  • Stress and Anger Management - Learning to manage your emotional states even under pressure

‘Fudoshin’ is a Japanese word which means ‘immovable spirit’. This is the principle which underpins all our work: that there is at the heart of all people an essential and unchanging core and when we can be consistently in touch with this centre of our being, we can naturally and spontaneously express the very best we have to offer.  Paradoxically, in this way our 'Immoveable Spirit' enables us to be totally flowing, responsive - and completely moveable - in the face of life's challenges without sacrificing our core values.

Fudoshin Development was founded in 2009 by Rev. Francis Briers who is a Facilitator, Trainer, Interfaith Minister, and Martial Artist. While Francis has been designing and delivering workshops, and working with individuals and groups in a number of settings for over 10 years, he wanted a community, an organisation within which he could work with like-minded, like-hearted people to offer courses focused around the warrior archetype, deepening into the soul, and heart-centred living.
The modern world can be a confusing, frightening, and isolating place to be, in spite of, and sometimes because of all the information and means of communication available. We want to help people to feel more empowered, connected, centred and loving in the face of whatever life has to offer. We provide environments where people can grow and learn through supported exploration so they can step forth like warriors: sword at their hip and sun on their back - prepared and blessed for their personal adventures.

"Don't ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."  - Howard Thurman
